Classic White Bread Recipe
Preparation time: 60 minutes
Baking time: 40 minutes
500g Tesco Organic Strong White Flour
1 ½ tsp salt
1 tsp granulated sugar
15g soft butter or 15ml vegetable oil
1 sachet (7g) Tesco Fast Action Yeast
300ml luke warm water
2lb loaf tin
Method- Hand Baking:
1. Add flour and salt to a large bowl, stir in the sugar and yeast, then rub in the butter. Add enough water to form a soft dough.
2. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for up to 10mins until smooth and elastic.
3. Shape the dough on a greased and floured baking tray or place in a tin. Cover and leave to rise in a warm place until doubled in size for 45 minutes. Pre-heat oven to 230°C/Fan 210°C/Gas mark 8.
4. Bake the loaf for 15 minutes then reduce oven temperature to 200°C/Fan 180°C/Gas mark 6 and bake for a further 15-20 minutes, or until the bread is risen and golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped underneath. Turn out and cool on a wire rack.
